Years ago I had a dear friend named Linda Stone. In her beautiful home in Dallas, Texas, she had a collection of cymbidium orchids. I thought they were some of the most beautiful flowers I had ever seen, with a fragrance to match. During my several moves I had lost most of my orchids - but I am beginning to gain a collection again. Because of my sunroom, I am now able to grow many plants that I wouldn’t have been able to grow in the hot West Texas weather here in Lubbock. This cymbidium was a present to me that has now taken up residence in my sunroom.

Pat and I dropped by our local Little Red Riding Hood Nursery yesterday and enjoyed their wide array of poinsettias. Here is a photo of the double red variety. I had never seen this kind before.

Christmas is a time of poinsettias and amaryllis, Christmas cactus and cymbidium orchids. It is amazing to me what the world of flowers gifts us with during this holy season of light.
