Manhattanhenge

Manhattanhenge

While I was having my brunch at Tiffany’s this Sunday, I noticed an article in the newspaper about the Manhattanhenge, a phenomenon that takes place semiannually in the city. I went on to read the whole article and it was then that I became aware of the beautiful natural event that takes place in the city, which I had missed all these years. I was pretty confident that even Yvonne my girlfriend must have not noticed the Manhattanhenge and hence I decided to surprise her with it.
I called her up and told her to keep the evening free for me but she upfront declined. It was some fashion event she had been preparing for and was completely engulfed in it for almost a week now. I smiled, it was all the more reason I needed to show her this phenomenon.
I spent the day doing my usual weekend chores, met the guys and as evening neared, got ready for the event. The time of the event was 8:24 pm but the guy who had first names the phenomenon, Neil deGrasse Tyson, had advised to be at the place half an hour before time. I had left home at 6 pm because I knew that it would take quite a time to get Yvonne out.
As I had planned the drill, I went to Yvonne’s workshop and I asked her to come with me, she declined and I just sat there, staring at her while she worked. After sometime I asked again; she declined. It was almost 8.pm now and I asked again but she still declined. I then simply got up, stopped her and taking her by the hand, pulled her in my direction. I told her staff that I was kidnapping her for not more than half hour and that I would bring her back in one piece.
She was furious and didn’t talk to me throughout the cab ride to 42nd Street. We go off and I looked for a spot for us and waited. Finally, not able to control her anger she asked me why we were there and I pointed her to west. She looked frantically and looked back at me with raised eyebrows. It was when I told her to look at the sun that she noticed it. It had already begun and we just stood there watching it. It was beautiful to see the sun so clear over Manhattan skies. I guess for the first time the skyscrapers were not blocking the view for me.
When it was over, Yvonne hugged me as all her anger seemed to be melted by the sun and thanked me for getting her there. Oh! And we kissed.
