Yesterday was a Great Day - look at my husband’s post

I am truly blessed. This is my husband’s post on his blog Techquisitive from yesterday.
techquisitiveorchids

I made a run to the grocery store for milk and coffee only to be confronted with an enormous collection of beautiful cymbidium orchids, one of my wife Jean’s passions. It was such a varied offering I had no inkling which she would want. So I took this picture with the camera phone and emailed it to her. Then I called her for her decision. She chose the yellow on the left and the pink on the right.

Architecture theme: New Mexico church

photohunterheader

photohunters_church

We visited my granddaughter during the time of my husband’s birthday in January. We took a driving trip - which we love - from our home in Lubbock to Phoenix and back over a long weekend. I snapped a photo of this church at 70 miles per hour.

Daylily Jedi Blue Note

Jedi Blue Note
My yard got 2 inches of rain this weekend - which is wonderful for Lubbock - so this afternoon, I took the opportunity of beginning my seemingly never-ending pastime of pulling weeds. Of course, I had to take breaks :) - and walk around to see if any other flowers were coming up. I had forgotten this daylily was even there - but there is a clump of them coming up. Came running into the house to check my pictures - and sure enough - there it was. What fun this year is being. Last summer was our first year in our new home and because we had moved the plants from our previous house, nothing was really established - many plants didn’t even bloom. This year should be so much better. I can hardly wait.

Thursday Thirteen

tt-rose-purple

Thirteen Things about Jean MacManus

1. In a psychic research class that I took in graduate school, I once bent a spoon with my mind (a la Uri Geller).
2. I once solved a very difficult math problem that I had been told had never been solved before by dreaming on it.
3. I love lavenders, and purples
4. I have always been fascinated with mythology and my home is filled with statues of fairies and angels.
5. My favorite flower always seems to be the one that is blooming at the moment - although I have an enduring love for orchids.
6. I have had out-of-body experiences.
7. When I went back to college after an absence of 6 years, I took a German class - and I started dreaming in German. I didnt know what the German meant when I remembered my dream - but found out that it was entirely accurate for the dream context.
8. My husband and I both played the violin when we were younger.
9. I love to walk in my yard in the coolness of the morning and check on and talk to all of my plants.
10. I love light - and Christmas lights. I have strung several sets of led Christmas lights around the top of my sunroom and keep them lit all the time.
11. I love the sound of running water and have a fountain in my sunroom and a little table-top fountain by my computer.
12. I lived in Lubbock, Texas in the early 50’s and saw the Lubbock Lights - which many people - including me - believe were UFOs.
13. The first Spring after I moved to Lubbock when I was six, a tornado dropped down out of the clouds just a few blocks south of our home - heading right for us.

Here’s another one of my daylilies from last year that has sprouted. I love walking in the yard and anticipating the flowers that are coming.

Daylily “Mystical Rainbow”

Mystical Rainbow
Another one of my daylilies that has sent up shoots is Mystical Rainbow, which is very fragrant and reblooms. It was introduced by Stamile in 1996. I love Stamile’s daylilies - but the newer ones I have to budget myself to afford.

I love to walk through my flower garden in the early summer, seeing which of my daylilies is in bloom that day. The variety and beauty of daylilies has increased until there is such a wealth of beautiful flowers.

Amazon carries a really nice book that shows the variety of daylilies available.

BLc Lucky Strike
Another one of my new arrivals. Long and unusual name - but a beautiful flower - and it is fragrant.
